Application Requirements
These water projects are a partnership between the Foundation and the villages, who the Foundation desires to be pro-active in order to receive assistance as we can then be certain of the longevity of the projects.
The village or community must commit to making its people available to assist in the construction and installation works and manage the facility through the local Water Committee, after its commissioning.
Funding is provided for 100% of the overall cost of a project and to a maximum of FJ$100,000 or a portion(s) of a project with a larger budget.
The project description may include spring water or rain water catchments, borehole systems, water tanks, pumps, piping, reticulation, installation of electricity and plumbing works, water systems training and management as well as sanitation schemes.
All applications must be on the prescribed form and should include the site location, type of facility needed as well as demographics of the population which the facility will assist i.e. number of households, people, school, health centre etc. and public health assessment of the subject area.
The Foundation gives priority to those communities which have no water supply at all and are dependent on rivers and creeks for their source of supply.
Also a detailed plan and an estimated itemized budget with costs, together with status of existing energy supply (if any).
Upon receipt the application is first assessed by the Foundation's Technical Advisory Committee comprising electrical and mechanical engineers, hydro geologists, marine biologists and representatives from Government's Mineral Resources and Water Supplies departments. Members of the Committee carry out a site inspection to ascertain the technical feasibility of the project and present its recommendation(s) to the Board which makes the final decision on acceptance and implementation.
