Water Management Committees
Purpose:
To create awareness amongst the people of the village/community of the importance of water, its usage and how to manage it long term.
At the end of the awareness and training workshop the community and their water committee will create a Management Action Plan.
A general awareness on land and marine resources will also be shared amongst the communities, on how to conserve, manage and utilize in a sustainable manner.
Objectives:
To share knowledge of water resources and its importance to the people;
- To create a sense of ownership in the villagers of their task to safeguard their water with good management practices;
- To facilitate the process of creating a community Management Action Plan for water;
- To facilitate training of water committee members in basic plumbing and maintenance.
- To share PCDF's role in resource conservation and management practices conducted at local sites;
- To create interest amongst the people on their roles as stewards of the resources by sharing successful stories from other PCDF communities.
Desired outcomes:
At the end of the workshop:
The people are well informed of the importance of water;
- The village as a whole can appreciate the role played by the committee and are able to support them fully;
- The village is able to take ownership of practicing good management strategies set up by the committee;
- The Management Action Plan for water is in place as a result of the workshop;
- Villagers will gain a better understanding of the issues on general plumbing, the fitting of pipes and its maintenance;
- The people are well informed of the importance of land and marine resources.
