It was a great day for the people of Naqumu, Coqeloa, Coqeloa Number 3 and Raranibulubulu villages in Macuata, Vanua Levu today as they now have access to safe drinking water.
This has been made possible by the Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation through a generous donation from the Government of Japan under the Japan Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Programme.
The four communities have relied on seasonal springs, rainwater, shallow wells and other deteriorated water supply systems over the years as their only source for drinking water.
Villagers are relieved that they will be safe from water borne diseases and safe drinking water will be readily available in their communities.
The total value of the grant is FJD177, 806.
The newly built water systems will be commissioned and handed over to four communities in the Northern Division today and tomorrow.
