The Situation

The Chevalier Training Center is a vocational institute for the underprivileged youth of Fiji.

It gets supply of water from a nearby river. After heavy rainfall, the water is too murky for drinking and carries water- borne diseases.

School management reported students falling ill from ‘drinking the dirty water’.

A water treatment system was investigated in 2015.

This project design will include gravel filtration and a chlorination unit that will significantly improve the water quality. The chlorinated water will be stored in a tank as part of the distribution system. The capacity of the treatment system is around 40m³ per day.

This project was made possible with funding from the Vodafone ATH Foundation and additional support from Rotary clubs.
